But, surprisingly, even the regional Gujarati content, especially the gripping plot and storyline in films, has undergone a massive transformation in terms of well-etched screenplay and riveting storyline within the last few years. More quality and gritty narrative-driven Gujarati films are coming to theatres each year.

1. DHH:

Released in 2017, DHH is a compelling family-themed drama film. The film’s storyline revolves around three best friends: Gungun, Bajrang, and Vakil. Later, the three friends write a letter to a magician. Their only intention behind the letter is to seek immediate help from the wizard to improve their worst grades.

2. Court:

Released in 2015, Court is an ensemble comedy-drama film. The plot follows a veteran renowned folk singer whose normal life turns chaotic when an unfortunate turn of events results in his arrest. If this is not enough, then he also faces a lawsuit on charges of provoking a sewer worker to commit suicide. Will the singer be able to get out of this dark conspiracy and clear his name by proving his innocence, or will this arrest and trial in court change his fate forever? The film stars Viral Satidhar, Vivek Gomber, and Pradeep Joshi.

3. Shubh Aarambh:

Shubh Aarambh is a 2017 family-themed Gujarati romance drama flick that stars a tailor-made cast with the finest actors like Prachi Shah, Deeksha Joshi, Aarjav Trivedi, and Harsh Chhaya in pivotal roles. The riveting story is about a young man named Shubh who finally gathers courage and spills the beans about his ongoing family troubles to his fiancé, Riddhima. However, instead of calling off the engagement, she becomes an emotional and moral pillar of support for him and is determined to find a solution.

4. Last Film Show:

Last Film Show (Chello Show) is a coming-of-age Gujarati ensemble drama film. The Last Film Show was released in India in 2022. For those unaware, the critically acclaimed film had initially premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021. The gripping tale of the film follows the story of a 9-year-old Samay, who finds himself utterly fascinated and intrigued by the creative world of cinema.
