The much-loved reality show MTV Roadies has made its debut with its 20th season, titled MTV Roadies Double Cross. The new season has started on 11 January 2025 and it will be aired every Saturday and Sunday on MTV, and its streaming platform is Jio Cinema.
Rannvijay Singha who won the very first season of MTV Roadies in 2003 has returned as the host for this amazing season. Rannvijay’s excitement for the season’s bold Double Cross theme is reflected in his energy levels in the season’s anthem and promo videos. Joining Rannvijay are gang leaders Prince Narula, Neha Dhupia, Rhea Chakraborty, and newcomer Elvish Yadav. Each leader promises intense competition, teamwork, and surprises.
My Review:
I watched MTV Roadies Double Cross for the first time when it streamed on Jio Cinema at 7 PM on 11 January 2025. I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Episode 1 of MTV Roadies XX Season 20 was all about introducing the contestants, and I loved how the gang leaders gave feedback. They were honest but handled it in a way that wasn’t harsh, which ensured that the environment was more positive.
For the unversed, the show follows a reality format where a group of contestants travel to different destinations and participate in tasks that challenge their physical, social, and mental strength. Understanding this format, I wanted to know how fascinating it will be to see how the contestants are pushed out of their comfort zones while showcasing their abilities and sharing their personal journeys.
What really caught my attention was the fun banter between the gang leaders Prince Narula, Neha Dhupia, Rhea Chakraborty, Elvish Yadav and Rannvijay Singha. Their realistic and friendly interactions with each other and the contestants added a fun element to the first episode.
An interesting moment for me was when Rannvijay reminded the judges that he is the ultimate boss and can change the rules anytime. It was quite funny and added a nice twist to the episode. While I couldn’t follow every contestant’s story in detail, I noticed how the show emphasized their physical abilities. Well, you can call it dance forms or sports or martial arts or games or intelligence, it is all varied, and thus, you need to have a lot of patience to understand which contestant is bringing what expertise to the table in the 1-hour episode. However, what interested me most about the show was how the gang leaders encouraged the contestants to share their dreams and flaws without hesitation. It felt raw and transparent, which I liked the most.
Rannvijay and the gang leaders kept the energy alive throughout the episode. Like their interesting banter with each other and even the way they spoke to the contestants in an informal manner were quite easy to follow. For someone watching for the first time, the show is engaging and has its lighthearted moments. However, I can imagine that viewers who have been following Roadies for years might find this season’s beginning a little slow. For them, it may feel like the real action is being saved for future episodes.
Overall, MTV Roadies XX, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the long-lasting reality show, is a one-time watch for newcomers like me. It has the right elements of humor, inspiration, and competition, making it a fun and refreshing reality show. Are you also excited like me to see how the show reveals its double-cross theme in the future episodes?
