First Impression of Harley Quinn – Season 5
When I watched the promo of this animated series Harley Quinn season 5, honestly I didn’t understand anything but that there are two characters Harley and Ivy who are on a mission and are looking for a fresh start. As I was unaware of the earlier seasons and was curious to know what their mission was all about, I watched the first episode of Harley Quinn – Season 5 streaming now on Jio Cinema and HBO Max.
Don’t want to start the review with spoilers of the new season but I just loved the way Ivy keeps repeating how she and Harley are the “Best-est, Most Titillating-est, Most Exciting-est Couple Ever”. Her excitement is something present throughout episode 1. Yeah, that reminds me to tell who are the interesting voices behind the characters and here is the list.
Voice Cast:
Kaley Cuoco (as Harley Quinn), Lake Bell (as Poison Ivy), Ron Funches (as Prince Nanaue / King Shark), J.B. Smoove (as Frank the Plant), Alan Tudyk (Joker), James Adomian (as Bane), Cherise Boothe (as Selina Kyle) and Aline Elasmar (as Talia al Ghul).
What Is Interesting In The Storyline
So, after watching the 22-minute first episode of Harley Quinn season 5, all I understood is Harvey and Ivy are just lazy with their work and unaffected by their surroundings. While watching the duo converse with each other and with others, you get to smile for a while. Harley is quite a practical person or can say that she is a fully developed character while Ivy is full of fun, so that makes them a good combo. So, Harley and Ivy have their eyes on the new Superman museum in Metropolis. Why? Watch the series to know.
We get to see Harley and Ivy’s amazing gymnastic skills which can hook you for a while. When they talk with Bruce and his new girlfriend Lena, that’s quite refreshing than the earlier scenes. So, Superman is sad in the series, wanna know why? All thanks to the latest technology that makes Superman go on a self-discovery journey. Harley and Ivy leave Gotham City and move to Metropolis, but Ivy still has her eyes on the Superman museum. Wait a minute, there is someone else who is monitoring Harley and Ivy’s decision for a fresh start and their actions at Metropolis? Who is keeping an eye on them?
Verdict
As a first-time viewer of this animation series, I candidly recollected my childhood time watching cartoon series on TV. But wait, Harley surprised me with her unexpected bond with Ivy and reminded me that I am watching the series on a streaming service where censors are undefined even now. The voice performances are quite intense and the writing is to the cut. Dark humor is not easy to understand for all and has its own set of audiences. So, go for the show if you want to explore something new. For fans of the Harley Quinn series, this season promises to be a refreshing take and it is worth a one-time watch. I go with 3 out of 5 stars for this animated series that defies conventions and makes you grow up to the fact that even Superman’s heroism is no longer attractive and not irreplaceable.
