Oops! Ab Kya? is the latest web series released on JioHotstar OTT platform on 20th February 2025. The web series of 8 episodes is directed by Prem Mistry and Debatma Mandal and is a funny take on a life-changing mistake and that is to become pregnant unknowingly. Oops! Ab Kya? is the Hindi remake of the American series Jane the Virgin, which was originally based on a Venezuelan telenovela. So, the story of Oops! Ab Kya? web series follows a young woman named Roohi who has never had sex but accidentally becomes pregnant due to a mix-up at her health clinic.

Oops! Ab Kya? Storyline:
Roohi (played by Shweta Basu Prasad) who is a 27-year-old unmarried woman shares a bed with her mother and has convinced her police officer boyfriend, Omkar (played by Abhay Mahajan) to begin their sex life only on their marriage’s first night. Roohi faces an unexpected situation when she is mistakenly injected with her employer Samar Pratap Singh’s (Aashim Gulati) sperm at a clinic. Isn’t it crazy? But yes now she has to deal with an unplanned pregnancy and manage the reactions of her family, her boyfriend, and the couple who were actually supposed to receive the sample.
Roohi’s mother, Paakhi (played by Sonali Kulkarni) never got married to Roohi’s biological father as he ran away. Due to this sort of upbringing, Roohi refuses to consider abortion as an option. However, her grandmother, Subhadra (played by Apara Mehta), is another reason for her situation. Subhadra doesn’t believe in birth control and has always told Roohi that protecting her honor is more important than having a sex life. But despite Subhadra’s old-fashioned views, she motivates Roohi to keep the baby instead of getting rid of it.

Positive Aspects:
The web series gives a crisp introduction of each character with their names, occupations, and peculiar characteristics on the screen, thus making us note or relate to them as we carry on watching the episode.
The episode 1 is a mixed bag of various emotions of comedy, drama, and sadness, expressed naturally by the actors, thus making it a good watch.
Shweta Basu Prasad shines as Roohi as she is able to pull off her character quite well with innocence in her eyes and confused looks when she gets to know she is pregnant. Sonali Kulkarni is Roohi’s mother in the series and interestingly, the surprise of episode 1 is Jaaved Jaaferi who acts a a television serial actor, and gets revealed towards the episode 1’s end as Roohi’s father. Both the actors play their parts quite well. They prove that seasoned acting can steal the spotlight beyond just dialogue or drama.
Aashim Gulati as Roohi’s employer Samar Pratap Singh, who is in a troubled married life also brings his own charm to the character. Abhay Mahajan as Omkar wins hearts by playing a very easy-going boyfriend of Roohi who literally has been waiting for three years with his patience to break the piggy bank. The performances of all the characters are quite convincing and engaging, including Samar’s dual-faced wife Alisha, and step-sister Dr. Roshni.
Negative Aspects:
The episode 1 is slow-paced and introduces many sub-plots that may test the patience at times. For example, Roohi sharing her first kiss with Samar in 2016 and expressing her dream of becoming a writer of old-school romance may feel a bit odd. At times, you may feel like watching a regular TV serial in a web series format as there are many moral lessons despite the bold topics like accidental pregnancy in a joint family setup.
Series Quality:
The web series is visually appealing, along with well-executed scenes showing the ordinary life of Mumbai. The unexpected twists are carried humorously along with a little touch of emotional depth that keeps the viewers hooked.
Verdict: 4/5
Oops! Ab Kya? takes viewers on a weird and unexpected journey, combining comedy, drama, and emotions refreshingly. Thanks to its strong performances and engaging storyline, the series keeps you entertained while handling its sensitive premise with an easygoing touch. If you enjoy romantic comedies or family dramas, this show is worth a one-time watch. It offers a little bit of everything such as humor, emotions, and unpredictable twists, making it a fun and engaging experience.
