Highlights
Loot Kaand: Chhota Paisa Bada Khel is a six-episode Hindi series on Amazon MX Player from crime thriller genre. The series shows a small-time bank heist linked with the infamous Purulia arms drop. Created by Saurav Dey and directed by Ruchir Arun, the web series attempts to weave multiple storylines into an action-packed narrative.
Storyline:
In present-day Purulia, siblings Latika and Palash plan a simple cash robbery at a local bank as they think it will be an easy job. But their plan quickly goes wrong and they are pulled into a dangerous world of crime and corruption. What starts as a small theft soon connects them to powerful criminals and dark secrets linked to the notorious Purulia arms drop. As the danger grows, they realize nothing is as simple as it seems, and staying alive will be their biggest challenge.
Episode 1 Review:
Episode 1 titled Paheli shows how Latika and Palash have to find a way to keep their ancestral house safe. Latika had deceivingly mortgaged to a property dealer and also Palash is found stealing in his office, thus losing his job. Now both the brother-sister duo have a lot of debts that haunt them while a blast from the past is all set to create a major issue in the family.
Positive Aspects:
The series moves quickly, packing in twists in order to keep viewers engaged. Episode 1 sets up the story well by introducing the main characters and their struggles. Tanya Maniktala and Sahil Mehta try their best as siblings. Latika is the responsible older sister and Palash is the irresponsible younger brother. Gyanendra Tripathi adds mystery as a schoolteacher while the rest of the cast plays their part.
Negative Aspects:
While Loot Kaand is packed with action, it sometimes feels overly complicated. The story tries to connect too many dots at once, making it difficult to follow. Despite being set in Purulia, the show lacks strong Bengali cultural elements, making the setting feel generic rather than authentic.
More importantly, the series fails to hold attention from start to finish. Although the actors give their best, the weak direction and unconvincing dialogues make it hard to believe in their characters. The story lacks the depth needed to make viewers emotionally invested. I found myself wanting to stop after Episode 1 but since I was watching through an Amazon Prime Video subscription, the frequent ads made it even more frustrating.
Verdict:
I do not recommend Loot Kaand to anyone. If you’re a fan of any of the actors, you might watch it just to support them, but otherwise, there’s nothing worthwhile here. The execution is not exciting and I barely remember anything after watching Episode 1. This is one series best skipped.
