Dupahiya – Story Glimpse
The story of ‘Dupahiya’ is set in a village named Dhadakpur in Bihar and it is promoted as ‘the only Indian village with zero crime’. Then the narration showcases Roshni’s marriage alliance was initially settled with Durlabh but her attention falls on Kuber, a self-oriented person. At the end of this alliance, Roshni’s father agrees to give a bullet as a dowry to Kuber. The first episode ends with the theft of their new bike from their village. What will happen to Roshni’s marriage? Will Dhadakpur celebrate their 25th anniversary successfully as a crime free village?
Dupahiya Review – Inclusive Analysis
Sonam Nair has directed the whole series by pulling the best out of every artist who are both major and minor roles in the series. A director can make this possible with the script that has good content and well-written screenplay, so the spotlight of appreciation must be showered over the creators including Chirag Garg, Salona Bains, Avinash Dwivedi, Shubh Shivdasani. Technically, the whole crew had outshined in every aspect and captured the simple elegance of the village which were not disrupted by any disturbing bgm. The whole frame was looking realistic with no forced emotions.
When we look at the humour it was satisfying but not till we had a bellyache. Bugol who is so fond of social media and fame, his addiction towards creating reels, and his mischievous acts during the search for the bullet bike will definitely impress all kinds of audience. There are many such sequences written for the characters like Banwari Jha, Pushpalata, Amavas and Teepu. The creators don’t only focus on humor but are stacked with some social issues which are observed in the patriarchal village. To highlight this issue, Kuber who agrees to marriage for the sake of bike, the cop Mithlesh who initially be so irresponsible with his duties, the village representatives who try to pull down the confidence of Pushpalatha (the only women candidate) during the official meeting of village panchayat, and even the Amavas feels pride of showcasing masculine power.
One of the pivotal characters that lasts in our heart or majority of the Indian young/women audience could relate with her is ‘Nirmal’. She is a standalone role whose character arc seems noteworthy. In the beginning she is portrayed as a personality development teacher with a huge amount of self-doubts & inferiority complex. But it gets diluted in the later episodes completely, it is so important to register it, because the current generation who are glued to this attention seeking social media world must realise their real value which is their skills given as a natural gift.
Her transformation in the perspective over herself shifts majorly after her conversation with her friend Roshni in a breezy wind atmosphere. Honestly, we could even sense the lightness of that frame. The journey of the following duos for example Nirmal & Teepu, Amavas & Bhugol, Banwari & Mithlesh, their bond radiated a sense of tranquility and peace. Overall, it is paasably fun show.
Dupahiya – Negative Aspects
Some of the themes can be told in a simple and to the point instead of stretching it too much with forceful jokes. ‘Dupahiya’ begins to falter between the third and sixth episode, the unwanted sequences and characters which includes the dollar bhaiya (an owl), Kuner’s brother Durlabh and a reporter from Dhadakpur who writes about the theft publicly in a news paper; to make that they could have done it in a simple way rather than making it too dramatic & uninteresting. At a certain point the curiosity to know what happened to the bullet of Roshni’s family fades away with the stratified irrelevant subplots. This series would have worked so effectively like ‘Panchayat’ if the extraneous parts and running time were chopped off.
Dupahiya – Verdict
‘Dupahiya’ brings good humor with some of the moments of genuine laughter but the lagging screenplay often tests the audience’s patience. So, it is highly preferable for the one with ample patience and to those who appreciate subtle humor.
