Re-released on 7th February 2025, during Valentine’s Week 2025, Sanam Teri Kasam (Swear on you, my beloved) has become a commercial success, thus winning hearts once again with its emotional story and soulful music. The film was written and directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, and produced by Deepak Mukut. The movie is a modern take on the Shiva-Sati legend and Eric Segal’s novel Love Story.

Storyline:
Inder Lal Parihaar is a tough ex-convict who becomes a lawyer in the film. The flashback of the film shows how Inder falls for Saraswati “Saru” Parthasaarthy who is a traditional librarian under family pressures to marry. Their relationship grows through misunderstandings, heartbreak, and a fight against society’s judgments on cosmetic beauty. Unfortunately, Inder and Saru get separated again due to Saru’s terminal illness. When Saru gets to know how much Inder loves her, she asks him to get married to her. Saru’s final wish is shown to rest beneath a flowering tree where Inder is shown to be finding peace and carrying her memory forever.

Positive Aspects
- The film Sanam Teri Kasam beautifully captures the emotions of love, self-acceptance, and heartbreak through its soulful storytelling.
- The songs Tera Chehra and Sanam Teri Kasam are deeply touching, leaving you humming their melodies long after the film ends.
- The storyline focuses on Saru, an average-looking girl who tries to transform herself to win over a man and offers a sensitive take on self-worth and true love.
- What makes the film more special to me is how Inder falls for Saru’s real self and not for her transformed appearance. This part gives a powerful message about body positivity and self-love. No wonder this film has earned a cult status over the years.
Negative Aspects:
- Though the story is narrated to us slowly, its emotional depth justifies the pace.
- The tragic ending may feel difficult to accept when you watch the film for the first time. However, when you rewatch the movie, the purpose and impact of the end become clear.
- As I saw the film in 2016 and rewatched it in 2025, I found my perspective evolving with time and experience, which definitely justifies the film as having a unique place in the audience’s hearts.
Performances
- The film Sanam Teri Kasam stands out for its raw emotions and depends completely on performances by Harshvardhan and Mawra rather than visual effects. It is something rare in today’s AI-driven era.
- Harshvardhan delivers a stunning performance as Inder and his eyes are so expressive that they easily pierce through your heart, making the audience feel his pain.
- Mawra is simple and sincere, depicting Saru’s inner conflict between Abhimanyu and Inder with grace. Any woman who is conscious about her looks and acceptance from society will easily relate to Saru and that is the effect of Mawra.

Sanam Teri Kasam movie is more than just a love story. If you want to understand the importance of self-acceptance and valuing your relations, this film is a MUST-WATCH. I wholeheartedly recommend every couple to watch it at least once and appreciate the blessing of having their loved ones by their side.
