Kaushaljis VS Kaushal Storyline:

What happens when a son tells his parents to become modern and they take his advice seriously and decide to separate mutually? This is the crux of Kaushaljis VS Kaushal movie. Yug who is a copywriter in an ad agency doesn’t like to spend his time with his parents’ home in Kannauj. However, during a Holi holiday, he returns to Kannauj only to listen to his parents fighting over their unfulfilled dreams and financial problems. His patience breaks when their ugly fights affect his online meetings with his team and boss. Yug opens up with his middle-aged parents to understand the importance of freedom, privacy, and space, and supporting each other’s dreams, rather than removing their frustrations on each other. On the other hand, Yug’s lover Kiara who grew up seeing her parents separated, wants to get married to Yug because she assumes that he lives in a happy joint family in a small town. How Yug balances it out by convincing his parents not to separate along with revealing to his lover about his present situation forms the major part of the story.

Kaushaljis VS Kaushal Review:

Positive Aspects:

Kaushaljis vs Kaushal explores the challenges of marriage, empty nest syndrome, and the struggles of middle-aged couples in an emotional yet lighthearted manner.

The film engages the audience by presenting both the perspectives of youngsters and middle-aged couples, allowing for a fair and unbiased understanding of their respective struggles.

Ashutosh Rana shines as Sahil, an unrecognized Qawwali singer, while Sheeba Chaddha delivers a heartfelt performance as Sangeeta, a housewife who once dreamed of becoming an ittar (Fragrance) maker. Their realistic portrayals, heartfelt dialogues, and emotional expressions strike a deep chord, taking us on a journey that sheds light on our parents’ sacrifices, frustrations, and the dreams they set aside while raising us, often at the cost of their own happiness as a couple.

Supporting actors like Deeksha Joshi, Grusha Kapoor, and Brijendra Kala do their parts well, while Ashish Chaudhary leaves an impression in his brief role.

Director Seemaa Desai deserves a round of applause for tackling such a sensitive topic in an era where flashy love stories with peppy songs dominate the box office. She presents a refreshing take on long-term marriages in a middle-class household, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own family bonds.

Negative Aspects:

While Yug (Pavail Gulati) and Kiara (Isha Talwar) play an important role in the story, their characters aren’t as well-developed or impactful as Sahil and Sangeeta. The film could have explored their journey as a modern couple in greater depth, allowing viewers to draw stronger parallels between relationships across different generations.

Movie Quality:

The film presents a heartfelt family drama with well-written dialogues by Siddharth Goel and Seemaa Desai, supported by powerful performances from Ashutosh Rana and Sheeba Chaddha. Set against the backdrop of a small-town middle-class household and a professional ad agency, the storytelling effectively highlights generational differences without being preachy.

Verdict: 3/5

Kaushaljis vs Kaushal delivers a lighthearted yet insightful take on family dynamics and mutual understanding in relationships. With relatable humor and emotional depth, the film strikes a balance between entertainment and life lessons. Add it to your weekend watchlist on JioHotstar to watch with your family.
