Mumbai Academy of Moving Films has initiated a Short Film Programme for young filmmakers and talents who are passionate about Cinema. The programme is open for submissions where the filmmakers have to create a 20- 40 minute film using an iPhone along with the mentorship of four of the most fertile filmmakers of India – Vikramaditya Motawane, Konkona Sen Sharma, Lijo Jose Pellissery and Vetri Maaran.

The announcement was made by Film Critic Anupama Chopra who shared this to her Instagram that 4 Mentors will be guiding the 4 selected Emerging Filmmakers who will direct those short films in 4 Indian Languages. The submissions will be shortlisted and are to follow the rules set by MAMI. The official website even put out the open submission that read, “In this edition, MAMI Select expands its reach with an open call across India to select four emerging filmmakers (“applicant filmmakers”) from diverse regions across India, showcasing regional cinema in four short films ranging in duration from 20 minutes to 40 minutes across four languages, namely, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi and Tamil.”

The Year End Short Film Programme Submission Details
The applicants have to submit their works in the official Mumbai Film Festival website by clicking the Apply Now.
- The Applicants must be an Indian Citizen and over the Age of 21.
- The Submission Synopsis must be registered with a valid authority such as the Screenwriters Association (SWA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), or Copyright Office or else will be rejected.
- The submission must have a English Synopsis and regardless of the regional four languages must have English
- MAMI submissions must be password protected file links from Vimea or a Google Link.
- The Last Date for Submission is 19 January, 2025.
The selected 4 applicants will be provided a grant for filming along with an iPhone 16 Pro Max and a MacBook Pro to edit further. The short films will be premiered in April 2025 at a special screening event arranged by the Mumbai Film Festival and will be later available on the official MAMI YouTube page.
