Maha Shivratri – Significance
“Maha Shivratri” is celebrated across the nation and it is one of the significant days for the ardent followers of Hinduism and devotees of Lord Shiva. Every year the fourteenth day of the dark half of the lunar month (between 12 am to the next day 12 am) in the Hindu calendar is observed as “Mahashivratri”. On this propitious day, the devotees will follow various rituals which includes, meditation, fasting, chanting mantras, prayers, offering milk, honey, bael leaves to Shiva temple and strongly follow jagran. It is believed that Lord Shiva performed a cosmic dance of creation, preservation and destruction. It is termed in Hinduism as “Tandava”. And, following those rituals mentioned above on this day will aid the individuals to overcome the darkness, ignorance, and they will be blessed with positive energy, & self-discipline.
