Hollywood’s most bankable star, Will Smith, has hinted that a sequel to Hancock will happen soon. Interestingly, Zendaya might also join the cast.
During a recent Twitch live stream with xQc, Will Smith shared about this exciting update on Hancock 2. For the unversed, Félix Lengyel who is also known as xQc, is a Canadian streamer, influencer, and former pro Overwatch player.
Smith shared that some interesting ideas are in the works for Hancock 2. He also noted that there are no official talks yet, but one exciting update is that Zendaya is also being considered for a key role in the film. In his words, “There’s a really cool, really cool ‘Hancock 2’ idea. We haven’t even talked about it, so I’m gonna give you one little piece – Zendaya is being approached for a role in ‘Hancock 2.”
For the unversed, Hancock was earlier released in 2008. The film’s story is about an unconventional superhero, which was performed by Will Smith. The lead hero of the film Hancock struggles with amnesia and alcoholism. His careless well-thought process heroics cause as much damage as they prevent. With the help of a PR specialist (played by Jason Bateman) and a mysterious woman with powers of her own (Charlize Theron), he starts to find out his past and change his ways.
Directed by Peter Berg and written by Vince Gilligan and Vy Vincent Ngo, the film Hancock was a success, earning over $600 million worldwide on a $150 million production budget. In the last few years, there have been talks of a sequel to Hancock. In 2009, the director of the film shared that Smith and Theron would return for another film. In 2020, Theron also said she would be interested in taking an interesting role in the film.
So, as per this recent development, Smith’s latest comments, and Zendaya’s possible involvement, Hancock 2 might finally be happening. However, Sony has not commented on the sequel plans of Hancock.
Smith who recently won an Academy Award for King Richard movie actually hit the headlines on the same night for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. He continues to remain in the spotlight. Zendaya has won two Emmy Awards for her part as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria with production on Season 3 starting earlier this year.
