The authorities said that an autopsy had been requested. But there is no sign of foul play. The exact cause of Wheesung’s death is still to be determined. Regardless, no signs of forced entry, murder, or a suicide note have been found at the scene.

Wheesung death: ‘Diet complete. See you on March 15’

Tajo Entertainment announced Wheesung’s sudden demise in a statement. Emergency responders found the singer in a state of cardiac arrest and pronounced him deceased, the agency further mentioned.

Fans and netizens across the globe are mourning Wheesung’s death. But his latest Instagram post on March 6 is also getting a lot of attention. In that post, the singer offered an update on his diet completion.

“Diet complete. See you on March 15,” the post read. Wheesung was most probably referring to his upcoming joint concert in Daegu scheduled to take place on March 15. He has been credited for popularising R&B in South Korea.

Wheesung is no stranger to legal battles in South Korea

Wheesung – real name is Choi Whee-sung – debuted in 2002 and quickly made a name for himself. His soulful melodies are a big hit, earning praise from Shin Seung-hun and Seo Tae-ji. He had established himself as a mentor to K-pop stars.

But Wheesung is no stranger to legal battles. In 2021, he was sentenced to one year of prison time and a couple of years of probation due to his illegal administration of propofol, a psychotropic sleep anaesthetic.

In the earlier year, he had been found unconscious after injecting another anaesthetic called etomidate. But etomidate had not been classified as a narcotic at that time. On February 28, 2025, the drug officially started being classified as a narcotic.
