The Maverick American Filmmaker David Lynch passed away on Thursday after having been diagnosed with debilitating Emphysema for years. The filmmaker carved a deep, idiosyncratic path for himself and for like minds in Hollywood with his unique, layered stories. David Lynch’s family announced the death of the famous filmmaker through a Facebook post that read, “It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch.” The post also included that the family is heartbroken by the loss of the filmmaker but holding on to the positive attitude of the late genius as he would say, “Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole,” the family recalled.

David Lynch is known for his experimental films that are excessive in emotions. Known as the master of surrealism, Lynch materialised the disturbing and bizarre aspects of human mind in his films. The ‘Wild at Heart’ director put together a complex narration, one that is fresh and opulent in the visual presentation, Lynch was deservingly awarded some of the prestigious awards for his filmography. The recipient of the reverend Palme D’Or at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival and the Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2000 Oscar Ceremony, David Lynch has been of a great impact in shaping the scope of Cinema in the late 20th Century and in the early millennium.

A driving force of ‘Lynchian’ style of filmmaking that is absurd, disturbing and purely psychologically stretching, his career started out of his own experiences from his time in the crime ridden neighbourhood in Philadelphia which gave him the mood and premise for the 1977 Surrealist Horror film ‘Eraserhead’. Impressed by his execution and idea, a producer gave him his next opportunity to make his second feature ‘The Elephant Man’ that is about a tortured, disturbed and misunderstood individual which received 8 Academy award Nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Probably considered one of his profound films, ‘Blue Velvet’ released in 1986 which went through a series of rejections after studios in Hollywood turned down the script for its extreme violence and sexual connotation. David Lynch was not the one to give up as it was his grit that gave him his Second Academy Nomination for Best Director post the release of the now acclaimed ‘Cult’ film.

A true transcendentalist whose mind bending narration dove into the nooks and corners of the psyche, David Lynch will be remembered for his undying passion and grit.
