The streaming platform has dropped another reality competition. The makers of ‘Celebrity Bear Hunt’ have released all eight episodes of the series, luring a cloud of excitement. It features Bear Grylls, Mel B, Boris Becker and Lottie Moss, among others.
Celebrity Bear Hunt: Plot details
The Bear Grylls-starring ‘Celebrity Bear Hunt‘ has been shot in the lush rainforest of Costa Rica. There are deadly snakes and crocodiles on all contestants’ radar. But these animals are not the only challenges the contestants need to face.
In this celebrity reality competition on Netflix, 12 celebrities – including Lottie Moss, Boris Becker, Danny Cipriani, Una Healy, Kola Bokinni, Joe Thomas, Big Zuu, Mel B and Shirley Ballas – are tested for their problem-solving skills in some pretty rough conditions.
The first instruction they are offered is to find four different modes of transportation to get them to their base camp for the next 18 days. But each mode of transport has an issue. This is in addition to Beat Grylls literally parachuting in to ‘hunt’ the contestants.
Celebrity Bear Hunt: You have got an hour – time to shine
There are holes in the boats, the tires of a jeep are locked up and a chopper needs to be called by flares that are hidden. These challenges are meant to make it difficult for the 12 contestants in ‘Celebrity Bear Hunt’ to reach their destination.
Grylls – an expert in tackling such rough conditions – needs to capture four celebrities. These four are sent through the infamous ‘Bear Pit’ the next day. It is a rough, steep terrain and is full of seemingly dangerous animals.
The four contestants need to find one of three exits, using some tools. They get a head start. But as Grylls lands in the terrain, things start to get more difficult. The celebrities that are captured by Grylls or a booby trap are subject to elimination.
Celebrity Bear Hunt: Our take on the reality competition
Is ‘Celebrity Bear Hunt’ your regular reality competition on Netflix? The ones that could often get annoying. There is no life-changing money to grab or the contestants aren’t really under much pressure. Essentially, no. This one is a bit different.
But is this competition entirely different from the lot? Not exactly. Let us offer you an example. During their challenges and in the ‘Bear Pit’, there are a lot of dangerous animals around the celebrities, including crocodiles.
In close-up shots, these animals can be seen clearly. But in the broader ones, none of those animals appear around the contestants. These dangers exist. But the likely fact is there are experts at the scene trying to keep them at bay and not near any contestant.
Do you also feel the same? Netflix has certainly brought out its checkbook. The stellar cast supports this fact. But the makers could have also put some effort into ensuring an engaging format for ‘Celebrity Bear Hunt‘.
In a nutshell, the challenges in this reality competition seem interminable and less risky than demonstrated. The thin script has been stretched across eight episodes. ‘Celebrity Bear Hunt’, perhaps, fails to fully understand the interests of the audience.
Celebrity Bear Hunt: Stream it or skip it?
Reality competitions like ‘Celebrity Bear Hunt’ are not really about the grand prize or the champions. They are also not about the challenges or the risks involved. These kind of series are, essentially, about the contestants and human interaction.
The Bear Grylls-starrer can be streamed. The format is a bit more complicated than required and the suspense doesn’t reach the desired pinnacle. But there are a lot of interesting things to keep an eye out for. You’ll recognise them as you see them. No spoilers.
