Highlights
The 2025 BAFTA Film Awards, which is the UK’s top movie honors, was held in London on Sunday, February 16, 2025. And guess what, Adrien Brody and Mikey Madison were among the big winners. Adrien won Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist as a Hungarian-Jewish architect. On the other hand, Mikey won Best Actress for her role in Anora, which narrates the story of a sex worker who falls for a Russian oligarch. Interestingly, this year, The Brutalist and the papal drama Conclave both won four awards each. Conclave won for Outstanding British Film, Best Film, and Editing. The Brutalist won for Best Director, with Brady Corbet earning the well-deserved recognition and an award.
Here is the full list of winners of BAFTA Film Awards 2025:
1) Adapted Screenplay (5 nominees) – Winner: Conclave
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini.
Conclave is a film that focuses on Cardinal Lawrence taking part in one of the world’s oldest and most secret events, which is selecting a new Pope. Surrounded by important religious leaders in the Vatican, he soon finds out hidden secrets that could seriously impact the Roman Catholic Church.
2) Animated Film (4 nominees) – Winner: Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
This is the sixth Wallace & Gromit film, the first since A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008), and the second feature-length film after The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005).
Gromit worries that Wallace relies too much on his inventions, and he is proven right when Wallace creates a smart gnome that starts to think for itself.
3) Best Film (5 nominees) – Winner: Conclave
4) British Short Animation (3 nominees) – Winner: Wander to Wonder
Cast: Neil Salvage, Toby Jones, Amanda Lawrence
In the 1980s, Mary, Billybud, and Fumbleton were the stars of the children’s TV show Wander to Wonder. After the show’s creator passed away, they were left alone in the studio.
5) British Short Film (5 nominees) – Winner: Rock, Paper, Scissors
Cast: Oleksandr Rudynskyiy, Oleksandr Yatsenko, Bogdana Kalantay
A father and son, running a makeshift hospital on the front lines of a war, face a difficult choice when a platoon of soldiers approaches their building. They must figure out how to protect both their patients and themselves.
6) Casting (5 nominees) – Winner: Anora
Sean Baker and Samantha Quan received the BAFTA for Casting for their work in bringing together the extraordinary talent of Anora. The award was presented by Shazad Latif and Wunmi Mosaku.
The cast of Anora includes Mikey Madison as Anora Mikheeva, a sex worker, Mark Eydelshteyn as Vanya Zakharov, the son of a Russian oligarch, with supporting roles by Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, and Aleksei Serebryakov.
Anora is a young woman from Brooklyn who gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and marries the son of an oligarch. But when the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is at risk as his parents travel to New York to have the marriage annulled.
7) Children’s & Family Film (4 nominees) – Winner: Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
8) Cinematography (5 nominees) – Winner: The Brutalist
Cinematographer Lol Crawley received the BAFTA for Cinematography for his breathtaking work on the stunning imagery in The Brutalist. The award was presented by Michelle Monaghan.
9) Costume Design (5 nominees) – Winner: Wicked
Wicked, based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel, is adapted for the screen by Winnie Holzman, the book writer of the stage production, and Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy and Oscar®-winning composer. The Broadway musical is produced by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone.
10) Director (6 nominees) – Winner: The Brutalist
Cast: Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, with Isaach De Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola

11) Documentary (5 nominees) – Winner: Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story
Cast: Christopher Reeve, Alexandra Reeve Givens, Matthew Reeve, and Will Reeve
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story: The man you knew, the story you didn’t. The story of Christopher Reeve is an amazing journey from an unknown actor to an iconic movie star. His portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the standard for superhero films today. Reeve starred as the Man of Steel in four Superman films and played many other roles that showcased his acting talent. In 1995, a near-fatal horse-riding accident left him paralyzed from the neck down.
12) Editing (5 nominees) – Winner: Conclave
Nick Emerson received the BAFTA for Editing for his outstanding work on Conclave. The award was presented by Shazad Latif and Wunmi Mosaku.
13) EE Rising Star Award (5 nominees) – Winner: David Jonsson
David Jonsson was awarded the EE Rising Star, chosen by the British public at the BAFTA Film Awards 2025. The talented actor who is known for Rye Lane and Alien: Romulus has received the honor, presented by former EE Rising Stars James McAvoy and Letitia Wright.
14) Fellowship (1 nominee) – Winner: Warwick Davis
Warwick Davis won the BAFTA Fellowship at the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards and delivered an emotional acceptance speech, honoring his late wife. It is really lovely!
15) Film Not in the English Language (5 nominees) – Winner: Emilia Pérez
Cast: Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez
This is a Spanish-language French musical crime film written and directed by Jacques Audiard. It is based on Audiard’s opera libretto of the same name, which is loosely adapted from a chapter of the 2018 novel Écoute by Boris Razon.
A Mexican lawyer is given an unusual job to help an infamous cartel boss retire and transition into living as a woman, fulfilling a long-held wish.
16) Leading Actor (6 nominees) – Winner: Adrien Brody
Adrien Brody won the BAFTA for Leading Actor for his role in The Brutalist and thanked his “Brutalist gang.” He honored his fellow nominees and expressed gratitude to the British public for their kind support. The award was presented by Pamela Anderson.
17) Leading Actress (6 nominees) – Winner: Mikey Madison
Mikey Madison didn’t prepare a speech, but she won a BAFTA for Leading Actress. She took the stage to collect her award for her outstanding performance as Ani in Sean Baker’s Anora. The award was presented by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.
18) Make-Up & Hair (5 nominees) – Winner: The Substance
Cast: Demi Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle
The creative team of Stephanie Guillon, Pierre Olivier Persin, Marilyne Scarselli, and Frederique Arguello took the stage to accept the Make Up and Hair BAFTA Award. The award was presented by Hannah John-Kamen.
Elisabeth Sparkle is a fading actress who is upset when her boss fires her from her aerobics show. She injects herself with a mysterious serum that promises to make her younger and better, but things go badly wrong.
19) Original Score (5 nominees) – Winner: The Brutalist
Cinematographer Lol Crawley received the BAFTA for Cinematography for his stunning work on the attractive imagery in The Brutalist. The award was presented by Michelle Monaghan.
20) Original Screenplay (5 nominees) – Winner: A Real Pain
Cast: Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes
Cousins David and Benji who don’t share a good relationship, tour Poland to honor their grandmother. Their journey becomes difficult as old tensions rise while they explore their family history.
21) Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema (1 nominee) – Winner: MediCinema
Simon Pegg who is a longtime ambassador for MediCinema, presented the charity with the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Special Award.
22) Outstanding British Film (10 nominees) – Winner: Conclave
Conclave won Best Film at the BAFTA Awards. Producers Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Michael A. Jackman, and director Edward Berger, along with the cast and crew went to the stage to accept the award. The award was presented by Mark Hamill.
23) Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer (5 nominees) – Winner: Kneecap
Rich Peppiatt, JJ Ó Dochartaigh, Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, and Naoise Ó Cairealláin talk about their work on Kneecap at the BAFTA 2025. From being fans to becoming filmmakers, they have comeup with a successful film that reflects the richness of Irish culture with global appeal.
24) Production Design (5 nominees) – Winner: Wicked
Nathan Crowley and Lee Sandales received the BAFTA for Wicked’s beautiful Production Design and gave a shout-out to director Jon M. Chu. The award was presented by Marisa Tomei. Wicked defied gravity to win the BAFTA for Production Design at the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards.
25) Sound (5 nominees) – Winner: Dune: Part Two
Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux
Paul Atreides joins Chani and the Fremen as he seeks revenge on those who destroyed his family. Torn between his love for Chani and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future that only he can see.
26) Special Visual Effects (5 nominees) – Winner: Dune: Part Two
27) Supporting Actor (6 nominees) – Winner: Kieran Culkin
Jesse Eisenberg accepted yet another award for Kieran Culkin’s outstanding performance as Benji in A Real Pain.
28) Supporting Actress (6 nominees) – Winner: Zoe Saldaña
Zoe Saldaña becomes emotional as she accepts her BAFTA award for her mind-blowing performance in Emilia Pérez, presented by Colman Domingo and Adam Pearson.
