Graves’ ‘Anuja’ in collaboration with Suchitra Mattai is a sincere and soulful depiction of sisterhood, resilience and hope when life pushes hurdles along the path.
‘Anuja’ follows the story of two sisters in India who amidst the unfortunate circumstances are finding ways to survive and dream. The elder sister Anuja, a gifted nine year old garment factory worker is presented the opportunity to study at a boarding school that could provide her good education and a brighter future for herself and her sister has to make a choice that will impact her sister Palak and her current life.
The story of crores of people in India who live below the poverty line and are subjected to weary physical labour with unimaginable circumstances, there are plenty of such young girls who are to start earning early in their lives to support their families and still have a ray of hope for a better future. ‘Anuja’ presents the life of such brave girls and their reality in the face of hindrances.
