The world famous blockbuster and 8 Oscar winner ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ rights are now acquired by Bridge7, the production founded by Netflix former executive Swati Shetty and Grant Kessman for TV Adaptation for the 2008 movie.
The movie that followed the life of 18 year old Jamal Malik who is participating in Kaun Banega Crorepati (Who wants to be a Millionaire?) played by Dev Patel in his debut role along with Freida Pinto as Latika. The original movie with several impressive accolades in its name including Best Director Oscar for Danny Boyle, Seven BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globes.
Regarding the rights acquisition, Shetty and Kessman spoke with Deadline saying, “Some stories stay with us long after the credits roll and Slumdog Millionaire is undoubtedly one of them. Its narrative is universal, cutting across cultural and geographical lines and it embodies the kind of stories we love – ones that bridge entertainment with profound human experiences, What makes Slumdog Millionaire extraordinary is not only its cinematic brilliance – spanning storytelling, music, and its remarkable accolades, but also how it brought together talent from across the world to make a global winning team.”
It is still not confirmed if the story will take off from the original ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ plot and retain Dev Patel and Freida Pinto or cast fresh faces.
