About Shyam Benegal’s finest films in Indian cinema as a filmmaker:
Benegal was known for his nuanced and gripping body of work that always broke away from the rules of the old-style conventional type of cinema. An important thing to be noted is that all his films were marked by a degree of being real, and relevant and did carry a social message.
Undoubtedly, it is true that Benegal was one of the pioneers in the Hindi film industry who actively was the torchbearer of the Indian parallel cinema movement in the 1970s and 1980s.
