Canada based Punjabi Rapper Shubh becomes the First Indian Musician to be the UN Global Ambassador of Climate Change Advocacy

Indian- Canadian rapper Shubh known for his songs like ‘We Rollin’ and ‘One Love’ is currently appointed as the UN Global Ambassador for Climate Change Advocacy, the first Indian musician to get the opportunity.

Indian born Canada based Punjabi Rapper Shubh has been appointed as the United Nations Ambassador for advocating Climate Change globally, also making history as the first Indian musician to get the opportunity. The decision was taken and announced at the 29th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Baka, Azerbaijan. 

The revered singer has a hold on millions across continents through his musical talent, an important quality that helps in carving a pathway for his fans and many others to be aware of the Global Climate Change initiatives and the current progress of taking the Digital Climate Library to a large and diverse scale. Speaking of choosing Shubh for the position, Jingwen Yang, from the UNFCCC said, “His music and outreach are instrumental in raising awareness about climate change and preserving historic climate information for future generations.” 

The famous rapper while speaking to Billboard Canada addressed this new responsibility sharing, “Through this role, I hope to use my platform to bring attention to the issue, share knowledge, and be part of a movement that pushes for a better future, not just for all of us, but for future generations as well. I hope our combined efforts create a positive impact in addressing climate change and fostering sustainable living for all species on our planet.” 

Shubh joins the prestigious and curtailed list of musicians like Coldplay, Billie Eilish, BTS to work with UNFCCC for advocating climate change and sustainable living. The list also includes celebrities like David Beckham, Leonardo Di Captio, Shailene Woodley, Don Cheedle and many. 

The 27 year old Rapper had his big breakthrough with his hit single ‘We Rollin’ that dropped in 2021 that is followed by sensational streaming around the world, attracting diverse audiences. His 2023 album ‘Still Rollin’ made it to No. 18 in Billboard Canada while ‘Cheques’ ranked No. 3, his highest in the Billboard India ranking from the album. His recent album ‘Leo’ released in January 2024 also met success at No. 19 in Billboard Canada charts.
