February has arrived, bringing a diverse selection of Bengali films that no fan should skip. The month’s releases include a range of genres, from family dramas to gripping crime thrillers and touching romances. Following a successful 2024, February 2025 starts off with highly anticipated films ready to brighten the silver screen.

1) Babu Shona

  • Cast: Jeetu Kamal, Srabanti Chatterjee, Payel Sarkar, Alexandra Taylor
  • Director: Anshuman Pratyush
  • Production House: Eskay Movies
  • A kidnapper and a crafty thief form an unlikely pair and get involved in a messy kidnapping mission. This is set against the vibrant backdrop of London. Their unexpected romance improves despite the problems and this makes them to create a series of hilarious schemes. Thus, everyone involved in the schemes have to be expect the unexpected.

2) Mayanagar / Once Upon A Time In Calcultta

  • Cast: Sreelekha Mitra, Reekita Nondine Shimu, Bratya Basu
  • Director: Aditya Vikram Sengupta
  • Production House: For Films
  • Once Upon A Time In Calcutta or Mayanagar is a Bengali movie directed by Aditya Vikram Sengupta, an Indian filmmaker. This is his third movie.
  • The movie has been backed by Wishberry Films in India, For Films in India, Catherine Dussart Productions in France, and DUOfilm As in Norway. The movie was first shown to the world at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2021 and has been critically acclaimed and well-received.
  • The story revolves around Ela, a mother who has lost her child, and wants to leave her husband and live on her own. Ela’s mother was a cabaret dancer who had a relationship with the owner of a famous theater in North Calcutta called Circarena. This theater was unique because it had the first revolving stage in Asia. Ela’s step-brother, Bubu, lives alone in this old, now-empty theatre. Ela needs money to buy her own home but can’t get a loan from the bank. So, she uses her boss, who runs a risky investment scheme, to get the money she needs. However, Ela soon discovers that she’s not the only one trying to take advantage of the city’s desire for wealth and success. This movie is based on real-life events.

3) Porichoy Gupta

  • Cast: Ritwick Chakraborty, Indraneil Sengupta, Darshana Banik, Ayantika Bannerjee, Joy Sengupta
  • Director: Ron Raj
  • Production House: Purnanjali Media Private Limited, Pandey Motion Pictures
  • Porichoy Gupta is a story about two friends living in Bengal during the mid-20th century. One is a blind landlord, and the other is an archaeologist. As their friendship deepens, they begin to find out hidden secrets about themselves and each other, much like the archaeologist explores ancient artifacts.
