Many trade pundits are expecting Pushpa 2 to rake in a staggering Rs250 crores on its first day itself. Currently, RRR is the biggest opener in Indian cinema. The film minted Rs 223 crores on Day 1, and Baahubali comes second at Rs 217 crores.
Pushpa 2 stampede: Premiere claims one life in Hyderabad
The premiere of Pushpa 2 at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad turned tragic last night as scores of people assembled to catch a glimpse of superstar Allu Arjun – playing the lead role in the film. Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil are in key roles.
The happy occassion descended into chaos as a stampede-like situation erupted outside the theatre, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old Revathi. Her nine-year-old son Sri Tej is in KIMS Hospital, Begumpet, in critical condition.
The victim has been identified as a resident of Dilsukhnagar. She attended the premiere on December 4, alongside her husband, Bhasker, and their 2 children. The actor arrived at the venue around 10:30 pm. Fans started rushing in his direction in excitement.
The stampede-like situation last night highlights the challenges of ensuring safety at large public events. Allu Arjun exited the venue after the film screening under strict police protection. He briefly noted his fans’ presence from his vehicle’s sunroof.
Pushpa 2 box office collection: Day 1 analysis
If film trade portal Sacnilk’s figures are taken into consideration, Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2 has already raked in Rs 41.54 crores India net on its first day for all languages. This is not the final estimate though. Stay tuned for reliable numbers.
In the US, according to an X post by Prathyangira Cinemas, Pushpa 2 has already minted $3.2 million. The film has become a pan-India phenomenon, and is poised to smash box office collection records and raise the bar for cinema.
Pushpa: The Rule gets leaked online
Reports suggest Pushpa 2 has already been leaked online. The film has apparently been uploaded on illegal sites such as Ibomma, TamilYogi, Tamilblasters, Tamilrockers and 9xmovies. Pirated versions are accessible in multiple resolutions.
The leak has sparked concerns about its effect on Pushpa 2 box office collection. Despite packed theatres across the country, the presence of pirated copies is likely to undermine the commercial success of the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise.
